May 23rd
Another lovely day, time to wring the Guzzi out a little.
Ride took a couple of miles to settle down, one cylinder missing a bit then ok for a few miles.
Then not.
Down to one cylinder five miles from home. Identified the RH as the problem (by turning alternate fuel taps off).
Got back, RH spark plug dark and dry - fuel supply? Tap ok but only on reserve (as per usual, been meaning to look at it.).
Took RH carb off and had float bowl off. Some rusty sediment bits - AND - float needle valve stuck in CLOSED position.
After a little manipulation the valve freed and seemed to operate fine.
Removed LH tap. This a bit of a problem as tank v full still. Had to cut a piece of spare rubber to effect seal on fuel cap, then prop the tank on it's nose so the fuel below the level of the taps.
LH tap - filter looked a bit dirty, also observed two small perforations in the mesh at the base of the filter - where were they from?
Fitted spare filter. On refit seemed obvious that the internal plastic tube was long enough to be interfered with by the end of the filter
Arrow shows how the internal fuel-supply tube (red) almost up against upper case of filter body, restricting flow of fuel when on normal tap position (on reserve this tube is bypassed)
Solution
Fit new filter
Trim 1cm off plastic supply tube
Both taps modified, carb float bowl cleaned, tank refitted.
Test drive fine. Bike going great!
(fuel tap works correctly now also)
